PXF Information for the Cisco 7304 Router

Cisco Parallel eXpress Forwarding (PXF) is used to accelerate forwarding performance on the Cisco 7304 router. PXF is available on the NSE-100 and the NSE-150; the NPE-G100 does not support PXF.
The Cisco 7304 router processes packets via one of two processing paths, the PXF processing path or the Route Processor (RP) processing path. Packets directed through the PXF processing path are accelerated, although the PXF processing path is reserved for packets utilizing certain features (for a list of features supported in the PXF processing path and when those features were introduced in the PXF processing path, see the "PXF Features" section). All other packets are processed using the RP path. The RP path is also used when PXF processing, which is enabled by default, is disabled.
